CINCINNATI —An American tourist was charged in the Western District of Pattaya after the same drug was found in a bag of Viagra pills.
A man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly tried to sell a product made by a company that sold Viagra to an American tourist.
“We had a drug that was manufactured by an American company that was known to the world as the Viagra family and is used to treat erectile dysfunction,” said Brad Schonfeld, a police officer and deputy regional commissioner.
The alleged seller, who has not been named, was found with the drug and other drugs, said Schonfeld. The product was later found to be Viagra, said Schonfeld.
Schonfeld said investigators arrested the man at a Cincinrespective sexual enhancement store on March 22 and booked him in the Western District of Pattaya for 10 days without bond.
The investigation, which was conducted by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), is continuing, said Assistant U. Attorney Michael Tuggle.
The arrest comes after a two-month investigation by U. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents that uncovered more than $5 million worth of Viagra products in the U. S., including several of the drugs. The investigation has also uncovered additional counterfeit versions of Viagra, including fake versions of the brand of the medication.
CBP also is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the sale of counterfeit Viagra, which is used by a number of people in India.
U. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $5 million worth of counterfeit Viagra in an operation on March 22 and March 27, CBP said in a statement.“As we continue our efforts to bring the counterfeit drugs to our community, we are working with law enforcement partners to identify and bring this counterfeit drug to public safety,” the agency said in a statement. “While we cannot guarantee that the counterfeit pills will be found, we are working with U. Customs and Border Protection to seize and destroy all and to ensure that counterfeit Viagra is safely distributed.”
According to the United States, counterfeit drugs are often distributed in foreign countries.
On March 27, CBP agents discovered more than $5 million worth of counterfeit Viagra in a bag of the drug and another bag containing the same product, said Assistant U.
“There’s a lot of counterfeit drugs that have been used in this country,” said Tuggle, who is prosecuting the case.
Assistant U. Attorney David M. Rosenblatt said that CBP has also investigated the sale of counterfeit Viagra to American customers in India.
